About

Matt Anthony

Architectural Photographer · Squamish, BC

I photograph architecture with the same care and intention that goes into designing and building it. My work is about documenting design intent — capturing not just how a space looks, but how it feels, how it sits in the landscape, and why it matters.

The Story

I got into this work because I believe great design deserves to be seen

I'm based in Squamish, British Columbia, right in the heart of the Sea to Sky Corridor. It's a place where the built environment meets some of the most dramatic natural landscapes in the country, and that tension between architecture and nature is something I think about constantly in my work.

I started Matt Anthony Photography with a straightforward belief: the people who design and build remarkable spaces deserve imagery that does that work justice. Not overly stylized, not artificially staged. Just honest, refined photography that captures the real character of a project and the intent behind it.

Most of my clients are architects, custom home builders, and interior designers across the Sea to Sky and Sunshine Coast. I work with them not just as a photographer, but as a creative partner — someone who takes the time to understand design language, material choices, and the story a project is trying to tell before I pick up a camera.

Whether it's a single completed residence or an ongoing retainer across multiple builds, I approach every project the same way: with preparation, presence, and a commitment to getting it right.

I'm also a certified Advanced Drone Pilot. Aerial perspectives are part of how I work. They add context, reveal a project's relationship to its surroundings, and give clients a dimension of their work that ground level photography can't capture on its own.

The Approach

How I work with architects and builders

Every shoot starts long before I arrive on site. I review drawings, study material palettes, and understand the design intent behind every decision. This is not about showing up and taking photos. It is about translating the architect's or builder's vision into imagery that communicates the same care and intelligence that went into the build itself.

Pre-shoot Research

I study the project before arrival. Floor plans, material specs, orientation, and the design narrative. When I walk onto a site, I already know what matters and where to find it.

Light-Led Timing

I schedule around the best natural light for each space. Morning east-facing rooms, afternoon west-facing living areas, twilight for exterior presence. No shortcuts, no composites.

Design Intent Framing

Every composition is built around the decisions you made: the cantilever, the material transition, the way a hallway frames a view. I photograph the intelligence of the design, not just the surfaces.

What Sets Us Apart

Every frame is built on the same principles

Design Intent First

I start every project by understanding the architect's or builder's vision. The material choices, the spatial flow, the relationship to site. The photography follows from that understanding, not the other way around.

Natural Light, Real Spaces

I time every shoot around the best available light. No heavy handed HDR, no artificial composites. The goal is imagery that feels true to the experience of being in the space. Honest, warm, and considered.

Calm, Professional Presence

I work quietly, independently, and with respect for the site. Whether I'm shooting alongside a construction crew or in a staged home, I adapt to the rhythm of your team and environment.

Built for Recognition

The imagery I deliver is designed to perform — in award submissions and publications, on refreshed websites, across social media, and in editorial features. Every image is composed with your professional goals in mind.

Partnership, Not Transactions

My best client relationships are ongoing. I work with builders and architects across multiple projects over time, developing a visual language that becomes part of their brand identity.

Marc Harvey, Balmoral Construction · balmoralconstruction.com

I don't just photograph buildings. I document the decisions behind them. The material choices. The way light enters a room. The relationship between structure and site. That's the difference between a photo and a visual identity.
